Prodiggers:
Great news, iView MediaPro has jumped on the bandwagon and added support for Adobe's new DNG specification.
Today, in London, iView Multimedia announced that its flagship product iView MediaPro will now support the Digital Negative Specification (DNG). DNG (for those of you hiding under a rock <bg>) is the new public archival format developed by Adobe for digital camera RAW files.
From the news release:
"We are so pleased with the overwhelming amount of support we have received to date for the DNG format and its adoption by established 3rd party, cross platform suppliers such as iView. iView shares our view of promoting interoperability and forward-looking compatibility between file formats," said Kevin Connor, director of product management for professional digital imaging products at Adobe. "We developed DNG to address a real problem that our customers are facing and our hope is that companies will join us in ensuring photographers will be able to access their raw files in the future with an open standard supported by individual camera models."
In addition to cataloging DNG files, iView MediaPro (for both Windows and Macintosh) allows users to import and export XMP and IPTC annotations, thus extending iView's already powerful support for metadata. This also addresses an issue I had earlier this year, namely getting iView Media Pro to read sidecar XMP files.
Since the XMP is embedded "within" the DNG file, you can batch metadata inject into DNG files using the Photoshop Filebrowser, and when you catalog in iView Media pro the XMP metadata will be read.
To get this, you'll have to download iView MediaPro 2.6.2, which is available for download at: http://www.iview-multimedia.com/products/download.html which is a free update to all current iView MediaPro 2.x registered users.
