I didn't pay any attention to earlier posts to this thread, but were
examples of "true" 16bit images provided?  Afterall, PS works with what it
is given.  Even my $million electron microscopes generate only 14bit data,
even while their framestores are 16bits.  Their software people realize the
questionable utility of messing with the oddities of the 16bit word and file
format.
