I agree with you that it would be pretty near impossible to change the modes
accidently via the menus, it takes at least 7 or 8 button pushes to select
and enter a changed mode. That's why I mentioned that setting any of the non
"P,S,A, or M" shooting modes with the left hand side knob on the cameras top
deck will automatically change the colour modes to one of the 2 sRGB spaces.

The same thing happened to me when I was experimenting with the D70 after I
bought it and files started changing modes. Sometimes when "happy snapping"
I wouldn't mind using a few of the "idiot modes" but they are a bit too
restrictive as you have almost no control over them.
Certainly a few custom settings sets would be handy. Perhaps a locking knob
on the dial like we used to have on the "old" film cameras would fix the
accidental changing of modes.
But since the D70 already does far more, far better than I expected for the
price, I can't complain!
