You might think that since ARGB is larger than sRGB you'd see colour reduction, but, no. Since the screen has a gamut unlikely to be larger than sRGB the image MAY contain colours [and more importantly detail in areas of high saturation] which are unviewable on the screen. So in that conversion you can lose them without ever having seen them. > >the same images opened/'not converted' in PS 5 (similar colour >settings, Adobe98) show the typical over-saturation of an sRGB image AHA, PS5! PS 5 makes this difficult as usable colourmanagement is only partially implemented. If you want to see an sRGB file for real in PS5 with <do not convert> then set Photoshop 5 default RGB WS to sRGB or it assumes the wrong colourspace. Otherwise, allow photoshop to convert to the setup workingspace. In 5 non colourmanaged images are displayed as if in monitor space, in PSCS they are displayed as if in color setup default RGB working space. It's easy to get confused by this isn't it. Just remember CS is most likely to be right as long as you respect an embedded profile. >(which then >desaturates on mode/'profile to profile' sRGB to A98) > >unable to figure out what's going on in CS - can anyone offer me any >clues as to why this is happening? ther is a lot of confusion here, I hope this helps. > >TIA > >Geoff Dore Best Regards Neil Barstow Consulting in Imaging & Colour Management http://www.colourmanagement.net/ http://www.apple.com/uk/creative/neilbarstow/ =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
