I agree entirely with your comments re human vision and adaptability, and that a straight conversion would be inappropriate, but did at least want to 'start from there'. I suppose my main observation here is that, while colour balancing tools are available, PS appears to provide no easy way of converting to a specific temperature which I found rather surprising. Whilst ACR and C1 have quite extensive white balance adjustment options the file must be in RAW format and the files in question are jpg.
