Thanks to everyone who has brought very issues in this thread to my notice.
DEALING WITH ISSUES AT THEIR ROOT
Prodig has a planned move to a new server over the Xmas/New Year period and this will address many issues at their root.
ANNEX ABUSE
In the meantime I have disabled the Annex.
Indeed I have been considering better formats for this type of facility and I think we might keep the Annex offline until a new format is finalised.
PUBLIC FORUM
Someone very aptly pointed out that when you join any public forum you should regard your comments as being made in the "public domain". (We even say this on another forum we run which is completely closed to non organisation members)
It is a fact that Prodig posts have been available in Google searches for many years before we ever had a web based archive.
Can I once again point out that...once you send an email it is available for anyone to do what they like with it...although of course they shouldn't.
We are aware that some listees create their own Google list in order to have their personal archive of Prodig messages. YOU SHOULD NOT DO THIS. But there is very little we can do about this, as purging obvious addresses can only limit this activity.
The whole reason we discourage the quoting of email addresses in postings is because we know that postings are inevitably available in forms completely outside our jurisdiction that can be trawled by Spammers.
REPRODUCTION OF PRODIG IS PROHIBITED
It is clearly stated in the Terms of Use when you subscribe. However it is up to Listees to police themselves on this count....unless someone wants to fund a very expensive investigation and subsequent court case.
CLOSED ARCHIVE
Because of new facilities available to us through the new software, we had already taken a decision that on the reconfiguring of Prodig the Archive will only be available to Listees.
AND FINALLY
We do ask that any of the issues raised in this thread be kept OFF LIST and directed either to myself or to a Listmom.
This will lead to a far more direct way of tackling anything that needs to be tackled, or clearing up any misunderstandings that arise.
Please do not waste what is a valuable resource by discussing them on the forum.
