Aleximas, I took from jonstahl's earlier comment that this might not be safe. My concern is how Plone would handle converting the existing code for CustomNav and SmartPortlets. What would it convert them to in Plone 4? The default portlets in Plone could be converted, but I don't know if Plone would know what portlet type to convert CustomNav or SmartPortlets into. I'd like to know what results you had either way. I am still trying to get the migration to work.
