Dumb question: what's a 'loyalty club'?

email newsletter, purchases accumulate points toward discounts, that kind of stuff.

Would you have a name or link
to a POS vendor that has this option?

I'll look around, but if you google "restaurant POS software" you should find them.

Interestingly enough, the Intuit POS hardware package has no touch
screen component.

That places it beyond consideration.

The IBM package does, though. Be nice to know of other
major vendors in this category.

There are several biggies. You don't need itty-bitty-machine company. The link somebody (__stephen?) sent over has some of them, but sort of an odd selection. Mostly, you need to match up the type of restaurant you have with the kind the program was written for. The sucky Access-based system (am I being redundant?) my client decided to keep was designed for pizza parlors, so it did things like capture incoming Caller ID. One could store some minimal customer information, but the telephone # was the PK. It didn't fit at all with his upscale-casual restaurant.
