Same here, I have seen a few problems too many due to the various power
saving schemes that are supposed to work together, yet don't always do so.
The first thing I do with a new PC is go into CMOS/BIOS and disable any and
all power saving options. Then I go into Windows and kill all power saving
options, including hibernation. Most of the time I also kill Screen Savers,
first because they are an outdated excuse for something to code (later CRTs
did not suffer screen burn-in/etching as badly as older CRTs, and LCDs do
not suffer screen burn-in at all), second because it is a waste of overhead
monitoring when to kick in and out of Screen Saver mode, and third because I
find it annoying. But in some cases Screen Savers with password protection
are needed to help ensure privacy of data when a person leaves his/her desk.
