I signed up for godaddy last year when they had a big advertising push. I
couldn't get any support. I required a static IP but they
could not get it working. I could access using their url, but that was not what
I needed. I canceled the service.

I just signed up at 1and1 and registered 9 domains (so far). I did this because
my Google hosted domain email had the instructions
so I figured that 1and1 must have a lot of clients. Anyway, the gmail is
already working for one domain. The others are being
processed now. Their control panel is a pain in the butt if you need to make IP
changes (or whatever) for several different
domains. A thousand clicks, but it is pretty intuitive and they have online
help with pictures and a 'walkthru' for everything I
have needed. If you need cheap registration and web hosting, they have it. They
offer private domain registration free. I really
don't have enough experience to recommend them yet.

For just simple domain registration with a pretty good control panel for making
changes to several domains, I like domainsite.com.
I have many domains there. The cost is good $8/yr. I have used them for about
18 months with no problems at all. These domains are
all hosted on my servers so I wanted an easy way to handle the A and MX records
with no hosting, email or other options. I only
want a good quality, easy DNS server and cheap registration. I definitely
recommend them. They charge extra for private domain
registration. If 1and1 works out, I will probably move these domains when the
registration expires.

I used Verio for many domains for many years since 1994-5- first with best.com
near me and stayed when Verio bought them. Verio
never had a single problem until they were down for several weeks last year
with the Florida storms. This was caused (my opinion)
by their closing all the different sites they had around the country and
concentrating everything in Florida. Unacceptable. I have
been slowly moving everything away from them since. I know the Florida storms
are not their fault, but it is pretty stupid to put
web hosting in a place where there are hurricanes and lost power every year.
That is the reason I won't put everything with one
ISP - remember that Lunarpages is in Los Angeles - not exactly the most stable
place for something as critical as web hosting. I
have accounts with them and have not had any problems other than one down day
when they moved the servers recently. They gave
plenty of advance notice so I was able to avoid any problems.

Does anyone have an opinion to share about hosting by GoDaddy or 1 & 1?
I'd appreciate any salient comments. TIA
