Depressing? Not to me, and its so true; beautify really. Time has a way of moving so fast that we arrive in the winter of our life caught unprepared and by surprise. This is just a little reminder to spend some time in the present each day; to stop a smell the roses, less you find yourself in the winter of your life, having never truly lived.

I think that is pretty depressing, Leland. <life>If you admit it's over, then it's over.</life>

This came to me in an email form somewhere:

#---------------------------------------

Winter Of My Life

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of
the passing years.

It seems just yesterday that I was a young boy, just married and
embarking on my new life with my wife.

And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the
years went. I know that I lived them all. And I have glimpses of how
it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is ... the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise.

How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my
babies go? And where did my youth go?

I remember well ... seeing older people through the years and thinking
that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so
far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be
like.

But, here it is ... my wife retired a few months ago and she's really
getting gray ... she moves slower and I see an older woman now. She's in
much better shape than me, but, I see the great change.

Not the one I married who was perky, young and strong, but, like me, her
age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used
to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the
day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore ... it's mandatory! Cause
if I don't on my own free will ... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all
the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do
things.

But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure
how long it will last, but, this I know, that when it's over...
I will enjoy the Spring in the arms of my loving Father ... and wait for
my loved ones to come when their winter is over too.

So, if your not in your winter yet ... let me remind you, that it will
be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to
accomplish in your life please do it quickly!

For remember that scripture? Our life is but a vapor, it vanished away.
So, do what you can today, because you can never be sure whether this is
your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life. So,
live for the Lord today and say all the things that you want your loved
ones to remember.

Don't worry guys ... It will probably get worse. After all, this is the youngest you are ever going to be for the rest of your life.

I think it has nothing to do with age. It's kids. It's that "life"
thing you have.

It takes me forever to remember where to increment the variable in a loop so that I get 'one more' or 'one less' iteration. I can't calculate a mod(x,y) in my head to save my life. And without intellisense, my VFP code would look like dBASE II, because I can't
remember past two work areas.

Okay, so maybe you're too old to program, Pops. (To those unaware, Whil

is 82 days my junior).

Us old coots beat those young bucks with guile and wisdom to their strength and speed. I still know that they'll forget the OTHERWISE case, and can break their code in seconds.

Sure, if a client just wants quick-and-dirty, some punk kid can whip together a Ruby-on-Rails monstronsity in a few seconds while we're still trying to start the word processor for a spec. But the kid vanishes in a couple of weeks to go find himself while we've found out
(surprise!) that what the client said they wanted isn't what they need.

Youth and speed is overrated.
