I've got a Thinkpad A31 hooked up to a docking station. W2K. Lots of
service packs.
Back of the docking station has two USB ports. I have my Lacie removable
hooked into one and an 18" cable that allows me to use the other for a
thumb drive without having to reach behind the box and try to insert the
thumb drive without seeing what I'm doing.
Has been working fine for nigh unto a year or more.
Both USB ports stopped working today. "I didn't touch anything."
A couple of days ago I had powered down the box and pulled it out of the
docking station overnight. Put it back in the next morning and
everything appeared to be working OK, but come to think of it, I didn't
check either of the USB drives. But everything else - mouse, keyboard,
video, network - all of that stuff still works.
I checked the USB Port Hub in the Add/Remove Hardware applet in CP, and
it said it was working fine. But the ports in the docking station ain't.
Troubleshooting wizard barfed on me (The typical "A runtime error
occurred, do you want to debug?" Microsoft nonsense.)
Any ideas on where to look next? Do USB ports just die like this?
Whil
