I suppose you're right. She does have blood on her hands, and by now is
compromised beyond all recognition. But I do see hope that she'll come
to her senses and realize she's been duped big time and then write a
tell-all book to redeem herself. Powell the same. I've read that he's
furious over having been used as he was with that UN testimony. The
thing is that we need *somebody* who has been on the inside and who
cares enough about America to lead the opposition, yet there isn't
anyone in sight. McCain must have gotten used to being a prisoner
because he's that again. Tim Russert from time to time looks like a
glimmer of hope, but he gets steamrolled.

A major factor I see going on is that we've transformed into a
litigation-oriented society, which works perfectly for the "haves", but
is worse than useless for the rest of us, because it gives people an
illusion there is justice, but no substance. We-the-people have no
shortage of major problems with those in power - but no mechanic at all
to do anything about it. I think a lot of people were hoping Fitzgerald
would lead the charge in ridding Washington of that plague, but somehow
they must have gotten to him.

One thing that may very well happen is the draft. They can't fight this
expanding war without troops, and there just aren't anywhere near enough
"volunteers". I'm all for the draft, for a few reasons, but in this case
because it will get people who don't want any part of it into the
streets. The 'volunteer army' stuff was exploited maximus and it
definitely worked against us now.

Sometimes I just want to give up and say "screw it", but I just can't.
It's a combination of seeing these giant destructive forces in motion
and knowing how bad things can get. People do seem to listen, but that's
about it. The greater psychological influence is that we're facing
doomsday scenarios if we don't win the war, while I believe just the
opposite: that war is creating the doomsday scenarios. Since people are
hearing doomsday scenarios from all sides, they are inundated with
doomsday scenarios and don't want to hear it anymore. Tell me psychology
can't be applied! I see this effect very often.

It's the Twilight Zone, living in a state-of-war part, where people just
disappear and you have no idea what's going to go "boom" next, day after
day after day that is so debilitating. People here seem convinced that
because we're separated by oceans that we're impenetrable, but I'm
saying that the lack of terrorist activity here is a sure sign that our
enemy is biding his time and building up for a Tet-style show - and the
only way to stop that from happening is to stop the war itself. The
warmongers of course are screaming about the same threat, so there is
agreement on that, but we couldn't be at greater odds over the solution.

Another reason we need the draft!
