> The real problem is campaign financing and conduct. Yes, absolutely. But there's another half of the problem that cannot be ignored: our information supply. It's the combination of bought-out politicians and the editorial power of the handful of media moguls who control the editorial content of what some 80% of people "learn" about the world around them that are the roots of our vast problems today.
> I agree with you that religiously-affiliated groups have too > much influence on our legislators but we do not have an > Official National Religion which is what the Constitution > intends to prevent. And that separation of power is as it should be. However, there is a related matter that cannot be ignored or swept aside, that of ethics. Christianity, of which I'm admittedly a "loose subscriber" comprises some 80% of the American population, and this group has a core ethic that rules out pre-emptive war. No matter how many times and ways it's cut, spin, fabricated, distorted or presented (e.g. the 2% who preach otherwise getting 80% of the attention), when everything is said and done this is an unambiguous teaching of Christ that is recognized by all denominations of the faith. And there are the shared Judaeo-Christian beliefs such as the 10 Commandments, one of which is "Thou shalt not kill". Can you or anyone explain how is it possible that two major religions can so utterly ignore cornerstone ethics of their own belief systems? We need separation of church and state, and we owe much of our freedom to this principle, but we cannot live without core ethics. Yet here we are today acting in a most unethical way. This contradiction plagues this country as we speak.
