! Come on Bob , personally i don't communicate with flier boys but
! those books are full of inaccuracies.
! In the one i've read during vacation fe - forgot the title already
! <s>- he talks about encryption and it was the usual story : NSA can
! break all codes and all codes are dev. in the US. Both statements
are
! wrong oc.
! The latest AES encryption algorithm was dev. over here..

I wasn't defending Clancy's bona fides ... I was mostly just yanking
Helio's chain. :)

A specific example of an inaccuracy goes a LOT farther than vague
anecdotal "evidence" based on a subjective interpretation of certain
email correspondence, is all.

The only thing I'll say is that a lot of competant techno writers take
liberties with certain things to move their plot along. Neal Stevenson
takes some of his knowledge of computers and programming and does some
pretty, shall we say, speculative things with it... And his books are
none the worse for it.

I already confessed Clancy really isn't my cup of tea, so my defence
of him isn't exacly what one might categorize as "vigorous". I'll
happly amend my previous statement about his knowledge being "uncanny"
though technically that word does not imply compentent... Just...
Uncanny...

:)
