I can see some problems with having religion in government, and I'm
surprised you can't. Politics is about power; who get to have power,
and how the power can be used. I don't want Religion to enter the
political arena in a struggle for power. Religion should not be about
acquiring power. We have enough problems without that.
If the qualification for election to hold office in the government is
religious piety, then which religion is to be considered the one most
worthy for government service? Is it to be Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist,
Christian, or some other religion that would be selected as meeting the
piety test? If we decided that God, working through Christians who have
been annoted for government service were the one worthy to serve the
American people, then which branch of Christianity would meet the piety
test? Would it be Catholic or Protestant? If it is to be Protestant,
then should it be Southern Baptist, Church of Christ, Mormon,
Evangelical, Methodist, or some other brand of Christianity that
qualifies for elected office? Once a sufficient number of the "chosen
elect" had been elected, then wouldn't that become the de facto state
religion with an all powerful Theocratic leadership. Wouldn't that
Theocratic leadership imposed their brand of religion on all Americans.
There is more than enough contention between the different denominations
of the Christian church, right here in the US, to start WW III, or
perhaps that is your plan. Considering all the diversity in the US
today, without the American constitution, the American people would be
in a heap of trouble.
What should be done with the Christians that are not part of the chosen
denomination, or Christian of the chosen denomination that are judged
not to be Christian enough? Should they be sent to labor or
concentration camps for re-educated; or something worse?
Yes, I see some problems with religion in government, and I'm surprised
you don't. Just consider the current state of affairs in Iraq.

Hi Leland!
Have you ever met Katherine Harris? I have, on many occasions. It is the usual
thing for the left-liberal press to demonize conservatives, and for itching
ears such as yours to greedily consume the hard-left message which is, after
all, exactly what they wanted to hear.
Coming from you, your comments are complimentary to Katherine, and reinforce
her message precisely. You are the sort of person she was talking about when
she said "secular".
