Sometimes a simple story gets a point across, but not always. The reason that episode startled me was because I hadn't been thinking in terms of the potential of that particular set of consequences for our behavior. Frankly, I've been concerned instead of wmd attacks and that set of consequences. This angle was out of left field as far as I'm concerned, but is now a vivid part of the collection of thought I have about what's going on - and where we're headed if we don't solve our mighty problem with our own gov't. Yes, I've seen poverty and homelessness. I've even experienced it myself, although it wasn't absolutely necessary because I've always had family to ultimately turn to, but I'm the adventurous type and have been down that road. Heck, I'm broke right now! I don't experience 'epiphanies' every day, or every year for the matter, but it has happened on occasion, and each turned out true, and this one hit me with that level of force. I cannot claim to predict the future, so I'm just taking this as a warning: that if we stay the course with the Bush (neocon) "war on terror", which is really an ignoble crusade to rule the ME, then we face this consequence among others. I knew that mentioning cigarettes would set me up for such a reaction, but I'm admittedly human with weaknesses, just like everyone else; my big one happens to be cigarettes. What's yours?
