The only reason a person can be successfully manipulated surreptitiously is if that person has something to hide.
If certain people were a bit more tolerant of circumstances beyond anyone's control, being homosexual would not be something to hide; there would be no closet. A criminal is someone who knowingly and willfully breaks the law. Being the object of society's inability to cope with inconvenient truths is not a crime. It is ironic (but not surprising) that society continues to create this wretched state or another and then using it to malign the "afflicted."
