This is the whole point is it not? If the manufacturers comply with all environmental legislation, then they have nothing to fear. If on the othr hand they do not, then the courts will impose the necessary punishment. But only due process will determine if they comply or not. Answer me this, if you do not believe the car manufacturers are responsible for creating environmentally un-friendly cars, then who is? Surely the most sensible alternative is not to go back 100 years and ride horses, but for the vehicle makers to research ways in which their products can be made more environmentally friendly. They have a responsibility to ensure that the products they make and sell do not damage the environment.
