re: spare bulbs... I picked off a nice BenQ XGA unit a few years back,
which has a manufacture 3 year warranty, and included a Spare Bulb Rebate.
The unit was about $1,300 at the time, and replacement bulbs are $450 retail
each (it took 6 months for the rebate bulb to arrive). I found the bulb for
my unit can last up to 2,000 - 2,500 hours, so it will be a while before I
break out the replacement unit (likely lose it by then <g>). But, by RTFM I
found the bulbs do not burn out like projectors using film media in the old
days. They get dimmer, so I am supposed to use the on-board firmware to
report how many hours of use I have on the bulb, thereby helping me
determine when to replace it.

As an aside, the BenQ unit I picked up has HDTV (works great), and
interpolates UXGA (1280 x 1024) perfectly. I love traveling with it, and
when I am staying in a hotel I have the largest "monitor" I could possibly
need/want. Very nice tool. It runs a bit warm compared to a regular
monitor, but it sure does kick tail!
