And make them in countries where the labor is cheap   There are incandescent 
bulb factories in the United States. there are few, if any, 
compact fluorescent factories in the United States.

Late into the thread, wasn't reading it. So excuse me if I am 
misunderstanding.
Down here they have also recently banned incandescent bulbs. I am 
usually skeptical and don't believe in coincidence (what are the chances 
that USA and Argentina legislate on this subject in synchrony?), so I'd 
say it is some kind of move generated by the bulb making companies. 
Obviously in order to make more money at our expense.
After all in the 1930's they came to an agreement to *reduce* the mean 
life of light bulbs from 2500 to 1500 hours, and they actively 
investigated different alloys in order to do this. So why should we be 
surprised that they are lobbying world wide in order to eliminate the 
use of light bulbs for their own reasons (yeah, I know, typical 
conspiracy theory).
