Hi Stephen,

Seems that the cure is worse than the disease, however. The compact 
fluorescent is more expensive, lasts no longer despite the hype and 
costs a lot more.

Not only that, the mercury in it is never properly cleaned up after a 
breakage. The energy savings couldn't possibly offset the disadvantages 
- corn ethanol all over again.

The Catalytic converter requires unleaded gas which many pre-'76 engines 
don't like, causes high under the car temperatures and costs a lot to 
buy in the first place and maintain.

So, they are kind-of the same issue. Nixon/Ford for the first one, Obama 
for the second.
