Well, yes, but the OS and the disk drive subsystem still cache the
file (in this case, 150k worth). So, it's all still an approximation.

I think the point is that for small files like this, most languages
are fast enough. And since we're likely to be performing a
database-related activity, the processing time and time updating the
data (output I/O) is likely to overshadow the throughput of the input
phase. But, as Ed always says, it is worthwhile benchmarking with your
application, your data on your hardware to determine what's
appropriate for the real world.
