Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding troubleshooting of
MySQL (v 5.1.47) locking up?

I'm accessing it from my VFP9 SP2 application, and there are 50+ users
accessing the database, but randomly, usually during what I would
consider normal volume of traffic, it will just start hanging all
accesses...no responses.

Using HeidiSQL, when the hang occurs, if I look at the server using the
statement

|SELECT `ID`, `USER`, `HOST`, `DB`, `COMMAND`, `TIME`, `STATE`,
LEFT(`INFO`,  51200)  AS  `Info`  FROM  `information_schema`.`PROCESSLIST`;
|

all the connections show "Query" under "Command".

The only way I can find to fix it is to manually disconnect all "hung"
connections, then, when the last hung connection is cleared, it begins
responding normally.

This happens about every 2 weeks, usually in the middle of the day. When
it happens, the entire database is locked up.

Would appreciate any pointers to where I can learn-up on troubleshooting
MySQL problems.

Thanks!

Mike Copeland
