Why is he porting to .Net? Is there something wrong with the current system? I doubt it's a performance issue. If he thinks he has a problem with that, someone probably didn't optimize it (WWWC has always been a fast performer). If he just wants some documentation, I'm sure someone could do that as its own project.

Why do you think it took 2-3 years to write? I developed a system for a previous client using VFP WWWC, etc. I believe we spent about 8 months in development (and I actually delivered 3 systems). His IT shop put out a mandate that they would do all software systems, and they standardized in .Net. This was about 5 years ago. Guess what. Their .Net conversion STILL isn't complete. And if it ever does get completed, it will be less capable than what they had.

No, I think your old boss is heading for a disaster if he's stipulating a .Net solution blindly.
