I guess that's why when I go into the hardware store I find only ONE shovel. At present, it's the .Net variety? :-)

There's a BIG difference between tools. I'd sure hate to try digging postholes with a trowel...

I stuck with xBase/Clipper/Foxpro/VFP over the years because for small to somewhat large data-centric multi-user applications, there was NO other shovel that could do the job as well as quickly with as much capacity for easy modification.

IMHO, for the kind of systems I've created in my career, there still isn't.

But, thank Dog, I'm 'retired' and don't have to worry any more...

The systems that I have cleaned up that were way behind schedule were all because of politics, turf building, etc. and not because of the tools used to build something.

Folks, ya'll can all say that your favorite tool is the way to go, but in the final analysis, they are all just tools, no different then a shovel and it doesnt matter which one you use, BUT it does matter that you understand the business you are in and what happens in these areas:
1. Receipt of the order to shipment of the product
2. Receipt of the raw materials to releaseing the finished good into inventory
