I gambled on dBase and then Fox before MS bought it. Then, when MS did buy Fox, I felt much better about the bet, but it was still a risk, but one I was willing to accept. I see PC's this way because I keep expecting them to catch up to - and maybe surpass - what mainframes have been doing for ages. But from this point of view, PC's are still primitive, and therefore highly subject to revision. Unix/Linux/Windows .. have no batch processing facility that compares to IBM's JES. In a substantial computing environment, not only does JES exist, but it's vital to the operations of a data center, which has other requirements besides doing what we do with personal computers. Because PC hardware has grown so much, I think it's reasonable to expect that software will catch up. Then, when I see highly industrious people in other countries getting more and more involved, it's actually easy to see them producing something out of left field that we don't expect today. > > What I've learned is the Python is more ubiquitous, and Dabo has a > > greater longevity factor, then I realized. I do wish you success with it, and if the opportunity arises, I'll try to help at some point. But right now, I've got all I can do to finish what I started with VFP.
