I did this back in 2004 and am so glad I did because of a deadbeat client. Others advised against it, citing what they thought were legal concerns, but I did it anyway and loved it. One of the best things I ever put into place. You must make it so that a temporary inability to connect to your website doesn't ill-effect them. I combined the poll to my web database along with something Steve Russell said long ago about storing stuff in the registry, iirc. For that shitty scumbag customer I had back in 2004, he tried to get out of paying for my services, and just like the power company, I "threw the switch" and he was cut off from downloading more customer orders on every computer except one (where I had left a backdoor open!). His flunky admin tried nearly 100 ways to try and circumvent my logic, like rolling back his dates, etc. I tell you I never laughed so hard when it came to such a matter. I sued him and won. I had the web download records to show this scumbag's usage. I had him by the balls. One of the best things I ever added to my software. It's totally fine for legitimate customers, and very effective for the shitheads who want to screw you over. -- Mike Babcock, MCP MB Software Solutions, LLC President, Chief Software Architect http://mbsoftwaresolutions.com http://fabmate.com http://twitter.com/mbabcock16 _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
