Mine was a VIC-20 as well.  If I recall VIC stood for Video Interface Chip
and it was the first computer to have a built-in video processor.  I also
did the compu-serve thing but not long since I was only 14.  I went on to
get the C=64 and C=128 along with all the various peripherals.  I still have
all the stuff and could probably open a small museum.
