Michael, I think someone said this already, but... Back when we had lots of network problems we used to get corruption, mostly of the index files, and that was why we did so much re-indexing. Today we almost never have corruption, because the disks and networks are so much better.
You might try looking for some sort of LAN test program. Most of the corruption problems (where the data is on a server) are either a bad NIC or bad cable connections.
