Assuming your button name is btnSelect, do:

thisform.btnSelect.click()

In the button's click method initialize a form property called 
lbtnSelectClicked:

thisform.lbtnSelectClicked = .t.
(run the button's click method)

In this manner,  you can run the button's click method, know that it was 
clicked and you do not need it to get the focus
