If I type 

USE DATABASE NOMODIFY  

I get an error.  

USE DATABASE NOUPDATE

gives no error

I had to go to the shelf and pull down the "FoxPro 2.5 Programmer's
Reference" by John Hawkins, et al (I tech edited a couple of
chapters).

Use NOMODIFY was in there.
