No. no. no. It's far worse that that :)

Play the MS way, and one day they'll ship a service pack, a security
patch or an "upgrade" and some of the functionality you've depended on
is gone.

Years ago, an Office "upgrade" blew away the VFP ODBC drivers which
used to be included in the "Desktop Drivers" shipped with the product.
Existing clients around the country suddenly couldn't get their Office
automation, which included a data feed via ODBC to work. And that was
our fault, of course.

In another case, MS decided to disable scripting of some Outlook COM
functions, as they realized bad guys were using it to send spam.
Legitimate MS developers were using it, too, and we were blown out of
the water.

So, even trying to play nice with MS is a losing game.
