Hey, you few mac-brains on here. Sorry to keep asking, but I have googled
and experimented until my fingers and head hurt.

I updated to 10.8.2. In addition to the user interface stuff I ranted about
before (which I still don't get), more important is that I can't run local
sites for web development any more.

Of course, the 10.8.2 update took away the "personal web server" option in
the Control Panel. Also, it must have reconfigured Apache. (Apple must be
learning from M$ how to break everything on upgrades.)

Turning on Apache in terminal (apachectl start) says it is already running,
even when a new third-party control panel pane says it is not.

The default "home" in the prior OS-X version I had was Ken:Sites. That was
created when you turned on "Personal Web Sharing".

I am trying to update httpd.conf. The DocumentRoot is set at
"/Library/Webserver/Documents" -- which I am trying to reset to the old
way, so I am changing it to "/Users/Ken/Sites". Is that right? Localhost
still doesn't respond. I am stopping and restarting Apache whenever I make
a configuration change. (Right?)

I tossed a "index.html" into the default directory, above, and "localhost"
still makes no connection, Chrome and FireFox.

Clues for the Clueless?

Ken
