> I recognize there are times when I have to accept recommendations from "experts". But I never blindly trust "experts" or anybody else. In my 55 years of living I have encountered far too many incompetent people with lots of letters after their names to believe that advanced degrees really mean anything.

There is a world of difference between trusting any individual claiming to be an expert, and the overwhelming consensus of people who do this stuff for a living and who are entrusted with the security of financial institutions, government agencies, and the like.

Just like you wouldn't trust just anyone claiming to be a VFP expert, but when the vast majority of ProFoxers say that something is a good idea... ;-)

Nah. I don't follow group-think either. There have been many times when majorities have believed things to be "good ideas" that were actually mistakes (see plains states farming techniques before the Dust Bowl) or worse, moral abominations (see racism).

And when it comes to VFP there are still a few controversial topics, like SQL pass-through vs. views, and here I actually have enough expertise to do more than read and evaluate differing opinions, I can do my own thorough testing and come to my own conclusions.

But I do continue to learn a great deal from the folks on this list. :)
