I don't have a specific solution to offer.  Rather, a possible technique
for verifying that code has not disappeared.

If VFP 8 has the Code Reference Tool, you can use that to "count" the
number of references made to a dummy variable.  Yes, you would have to
place code instances everywhere, but only once.  You can also build on
this idea based on your superior knowledge of the programs and the
situation.  This is just a thoughtful suggestion.
