The app just flashes and goes away. I can't imagine how to debug this

Need more info. Users need their own resource file (or OFF), temp
directories ought to be different, data needs to be shared and not
exclusive. If you have VFP installed (or a runtime command window like
RunFox) try running two instances from there and see if you get any
error messages.
Each user has their own profile. Resource file is off, but I need to
check that.
I will try what you suggest above.
