In 2004/05 I worked on a project in Scottsdale in your area that was
actually very interesting and is probably what they are talking about here.

Basically they were creating a hub using .net and something called duck
something or another out of new England (been a long time so don't quote me
on the name)

(found a link for those that are curious)

This hub would poll all of their legacy apps, and when any of them had data,
it would grab it, convert it, and feed it into the new system.

This way all they had to do was write the business rules and leave all the
old systems intact until they could be sunset

For example

Foxpro DOS

Output A = Input B
Output B = Input Z

ASP app

Output A = Input Z
Output B = Input A

My duties were to reverse engineer the existing system and bring onboard a
new team to maintain the fp dos application while another team would develop
the new application based on the documentation that I produced.

I bring all this up because I think a lot of corporations are being faced
with dealing with the old applications, many of which they don't even
understand what it does do to turnover, etc..

I was speaking with a recruiter and he used the same term. I said I know
several LAMP professionals and he said, "That's not exactly who I am looking
for." Now I know what he was looking for, Legacy Application Modernization
Program.

I have a customer that is a major corp that I've been with for over 20
years. They are doing the same thing. The front end of this program is so
complex and my application does it so well that they are hiring me to build
a front end "black box" that feeds the application they are LAMPing. Cool.
