AMEN...
Problem is, most are like lemmings and following those that don't over the
cliff.

Don't get me wrong.
I live Netflix, vudu, etc...

But other than time and money for the things that I've purchased, and left
stored there, I lose nothing.

My biggest problem with the cloud from an IT perspective is that we are
using it as the "engine" of our newly developed systems, and if the engine
fails, your whole system fails.

But, we all know that.
It is those in the media that are touting the cloud to those that don't know
no better that I worry about

Why would they, alone, be exempt from the laws of physics? Everything dies.

Lehman Brothers left people high and dry. AIG collapsed. Detroit deflated.
Nash no longer makes the Metropolitan. Stuff happens.

Just two weeks ago, the FDIC closed The Community's Bank, of Bridgeport, CT,
and was unable to find an assuming institution to take over the accounts.
They'll be sending people checks, up to the amount they were insured. Stuff
fails.

It is the responsibility of every IT professional to anticipate and prepare
contingency plans to manage the loss of every key supplier of the resources
they consume, as much as practicable.
