I would say that first of all, these days with a Windows 7 or 8 PC that
is up to date with security patches, a working, up-to-date AV and a user
that isn't a complete idiot, it's fairly unlikely they will have a
problem in the first place. If someone walks in with an XP machine with
no service packs and a 5-year-old installation of McAfee and every piece
of malware under the sun, you can only approach it on a best endeavour
basis and charge by the hour, on the understanding that it may not be
recoverable.
