I did the same Google and have installed one of the scripts (after installing greasemonkey - which is very interesting). Must re-read /Javascript: The Good Parts /and try to finally exorcise my dislike of the language <g>.

There are several greasemonkey scripts which purport to do this. I
googled "greasemonkey google link" (without the quotes). These
probably would work in chrome using  tampermonkey as well.
