For those of you wondering how this story turned out ... I chose to go with a 13" MacBook Pro Retina with 8 Gb RAM/512 Gb SSD. I was torn between the lighter Air and a maxed out 15" MacBook, and made my choice on the mid-point.
I chose the MacBook Pro over the Air for the Retina display and full set of ports with the tradeoffs being a 1/2 pound additional weight and 3 hours less battery life. I chose the 13" MacBook Pro over a maxed out 15" version for the smaller size and lighter weight with the tradeoff being 8 Gb less RAM (than the max 16 Gb). For the times I need more memory, I will remote into one of my servers. Thanks to all that replied!
