If you want to reduce clutter at least look at cursoradapters - they
include GetFldState level info and lots more, and they offer a lot of
advantages apart from helping with validation.
There's plenty of stuff on them in Help!

Yes, your code is uncluttered, but I am going to have to add some
clutter of field-level and row-level validations to make sure that
these all play nice and work as wanted. (An optimist would use
"expected", but I am past that.)
