Let's talk with Gene W about the ease of data entry grids :)

I think many of us have achieved a mastery of FoxPro with 5 or 10 or 20
years of experience, and a lot of stuff that didn't come easy at first is a
lot easier now. If you're working with a sophisticated framework, whether
homebrew or Visual MaxFrame or FoxExpress or Mere Mortals or one of the
others, programming something like a tabbed pageframe with grids
dynamically linked to other data-entry fields, buffering, collision
detection and transactional integrity and local, row-level and
business-rules integrity is still a matter of some skill and craft.

Putting this on the web, supporting the various browsers (and, becoming
more important, devices) is non-trivial. Line-of-business applications are
not that common, but they are coming along. Data entry grids, keyboard
shortcuts, fast incremental client-to-server interactions for inline
validation, lookups, etc. are becoming more feasible. And you gain the
benefits of device- and location-independence, scaleable use, and the
potential to use a lot of other tools rather than depending on a shrinking
specialty.

It's a question of the right tool for the job. I still support clients who
are using a heavily-modified version of a dBASE accounting package (ported
to Fox Plus, Fox/DOS, Fox/Win and VFP) because it does what they need.
Another has migrated, over ten years, from raw table browses to a
multi-tier web app. Ultimately, it depends on the needs of the clients,
today and tomorrow. And their budget, of course :)
