I run two development machines here at work. One with Avast and one with MSE and must admit that every virus infection that Avast has found, MSE has also found but where Avast does shine is in identifying File activity for potential executables that contain trojans as opposed to viruses. Also even though I don't use it, the webguard features in Avast could be useful for those of you who troll around ... shall we say "suspicious sites".
As a straight anti-virus MSE is ideal but that's it as regards its capabilities.
