This about sums it up for me: "It doesn't do a thing to address the fact that Windows isn't a single OS. It's two of them, mobile and desktop, fused together unnaturally like a Frankenstein's monster."
And it's sad, because from what I've seen of 8.1, especially on the eldest kid's laptop, it is an improvement over 7 in a lot of ways. Starts up like a rocket for one. If you could just boot it straight into a desktop/Start menu that is like Windows 7, or to the Metro UI on a tablet, and never the twain meet, it would be great.
