Yup - same here. My son tells me to turn it off - but, when it Guesses a long word I am half way thru - I find that invaluable!
Like you I will prep some text for my son usually with a url I want him to checkout. Put that into a note in Evernote. On phone open evernote and copy that text then paste into text message editor.
Darn - you're method does sound similar to mine. Guess I'm not so strange after all...
