The "Dreaded 17 Questions" and their updated set, the Dreaded 24, were a
matter of great discussion. I actually used the latter as part of a job
interview.
At the place I got my first foxpro job in 1992 they had a standard set
of interview questions and the key question (the company dealt with
marketing data) was to do with breaking out names etc from a string. E.g.
Mr Joe Bloggs
Mr Joe Bloggs esq.
Joe Bloggs
Mr J E Bloggs MBE
Sir Joe Bloggs
etc
You would be asked to describe an algorithm to break up the strings into
their correct parts that would work for all the examples. It usually
sorted out the serious candidates from others.
