A long time ago Ted Roche (I think)) and others here talked about where to put the logic. If there was ANY chance of switching backends, I did NOT want to put everything into stored procedures that could easily be done in the app without performance penalty (yes, Stephen, I'm write stored procs for heavy end of month stuff so as to not pull more over the wire than necessary).

That approach has served me well over the years.
