Charles, I recently made the move to an Apple laptop and the experience has significantly exceeded my already high expectations.
I had to give up some old applications I was comfortable with, but I found the tradeoff to be worth it. In your case you might find that the cloud versions of Quicken and Google documents are a reasonable replacement for Quicken and Office 2003. Good luck with your decision.
